Trail Construction Projects
Dallas
White Rock Lake Spillway area — April 16, 2010. The bike path along the spillway has been reopened - Woo Hoo! Although construction is still going on, the path along the spillway and across the pedestrian bridge is now open and provides a direct connection to the rest of the path along the south end of the lake. The new path is great. You should check it out soon. Here are a couple of photos.

Santa Fe Trail/East Dallas Veloway — August 31, 2010. The section to connect with the White Rock Lake Trail is under construction at the lake. the bridge across Garland Road will be installed this week (see article in Dallas Morning News). Also, see the August 15, 2010 article on the trail. Visit the Friends of the Santa Fe Trail web site.
Katy Trail — Current construction projects on the Katy Trail are listed in the Friends of the Katy Trail web site.
Cottonwood Trail — May/June, 2010. The section of trail from Hamilton Park, just north of Forest Lane, going north through the High Five to Mahan Drive is now completely paved. It is rideable, but since the trail is not officially open (and won't be until the souther extension to White Rock Creek Trail is completed), it is not being maintained. Watch out for broken glass, gravel, and mud. Construction has started on the section of trail that will connect the Cottonwood to the White Rock Creek Trail. Recent stories on the Cottonwood trail can be found at Navigating the High Five by Bicycle and in the Dallas Morning News.
Trinity Strand Trail — May 27, 2010. An articel in the Dallas Morning News titled "Work starts on the new Trinity Strand Trail in Dallas' Design District" was published today. The Trinity Strand Trail is a 7.8-mile, hike/bike commuter and recreational trail that will run along the course of the original Trinity River, also known as Old Meanders. The Strand will connect the Katy Trail to the Trinity River Levee Trail and the entire Trinity River Greenbelt. The web site indicates that ground has been broken on sections of this trail. More information available on the Trinity Strand Trail web site.
