Both meetings are from 4-7 PM

Farmers Branch

13000 William Dodson Parkway
Farmers Branch, TX, 75234

Fort Worth

Fort Worth, TX, 76133

Here the description of these meetings from TxDOT.

"TxDOT is updating our Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan, and isasking for your help in developing this blueprint for how Texas addresses its future transportation needs. This plan will provide a framework for developing and implementing a multi-modal transportation system through 2035, including highways, rail, water ports, airports, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, pipelines and Intelligent Transportation Systems. The Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan is the foundation for many planning efforts underway at TxDOT."

"Because transportation is important to all Texans, we are holding two rounds of open-house meetings to encourage comments and questions about the plan. Following the public meetings, the feedback we receive will be analyzed for development of the plan. We anticipate submitting a plan for final public comment and adoption by the Texas Transportation Commission later this fall."

More information and meeting schedule is available in TxDOT's "Help Shape the Future of Texas" newsletter.

BikeDFW is providing input on TxDOT's Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan

At the invitation of TxDOT, Marc Mumby (president) and Warren Casteel (committe chair) represented BikeDFW at a similar TxDOT meeting for stakeholders in Fort Worth on April 28, 2010. "Stakeholders" included city and country transportation planners and a few organizations like BikeDFW. We both pointed out the importance of incorporating sustainable transportation alternatives, including bicycling, as integral components of the plan. It was a receptive audience. It was clear that TxDOT, and the consulting firms they've hired to develop the 2035 transportation plan, are VERY interested in including alternative transportation and bicycling in the plan. BikeDFW has also submitted written comments to TxDOT.

Transportation planning in North Texas (and the rest of the country) is at a nexus. People (and maybe even TxDOT) are starting to understand that our present fossil fuel-based system of transportation is not sustainable. Right now, we have a unique opportunity to influence transportation planning in a way that will help us all adapt to a post-carbon future that is not that far away. A continuing stream of input, letting TxDOT know that people think inclusion of cycling is important, will help insure the incorporation of bike-friendly language into the plan. We hope that many of our pro-cycling friends will attend these meeting and express their opinions. You can also submit comments directly to TxDOT through their website.

I hope TxDOT's long range plans are as progressive as North Central Texas Counc
il Of Government's (N CTCOG's) recent release of 2035 plans.

NCTCOG recogn
izes there is no room, no long-term fix, an d frankly- no money to build any mor
e new roads or roadway lanes (except toll). They also explain t heir surveys s
how a large and growing part of the public want alternatives (rain, light rail,
street car, and ped/bike to connect it all). Now, if we can get TxDOT on tha
t page.

Remember TxDOT - T exas Department of Transportation, is not Departme
nt of Motorized Vehicles.

I can not make this T xDOT meeting (in Fort Worth)
as I've city meeting but we're planning to have club members attend.
